Electronic Arts has reasserted that it is: “Fully committed” to making more new Star Wars games, following the revelation that it has canned the open-world Star Wars game previously being developed at EA Vancouver.

Speaking to Variety, an EA spokesperson said: “There’s been speculation overnight about one of our ‘Star Wars’ projects. As a natural part of the creative process, the great work by our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve into future ‘Star Wars’ content and games. We’re fully committed to making more ‘Star Wars’ games, we’re very excited about ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ from Respawn, and we’ll share more about our new projects when the time is right.”

That statement suggests that Kotaku’s insider information regarding EA’s desire to make a less ambitious, quicker-to-develop Star Wars game instead is largely correct.

EA signed a multi-year, exclusive Star Wars licensing deal with Disney – which bought the Star Wars rights from George Lucas’s Lucasfilm in 2012 – in 2013, but the recently canned game, codenamed Orca, seemed to prove particularly troublesome. Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is due for a late 2019 release. To keep abreast of Star Wars-related news at EA, check out the company’s website.
